Alumni News & Events This is going to be an exciting year for our alma mater and we hope you join us for the ride! We celebrated 60 wonderful years of celebration last year with our anniversary gala and capped it off with a $20,000 donation to the college on the last night of the annual lectureship. Your cooperative spirit has enabled the Association to evolve into a greater organization - the kind that our beloved school deserves. Attached you will find information about the 2010 Reunion, I Remember! The success of last year’s reunion has inspired us to continue the unified reunions, which allows alumni of all classes to come home regardless of when they attended. However, classes of ‘60, ‘70, ‘80, ‘90, ‘00 will be able to have individual reunion activities within our schedule if they desire. Registration information is here. You can register online here. We will also be inducting another class into the SwCC Alumni Hall of Fame. Members of the 2010 class are: 1950s: Willie Black, Wesley Brown, Georgia (Smith) Johnson, Paul Jones, Floyd Rose, and Arthella (Nelson) Walker. 1960s: Robert Adams, David Blakely Sr., Andrew Carney, Robert Edison, Lena (Campbell) McIntosh, and Dorothy (Anthony) Stevens. 1970s: Willard Crigler, LeDetra (Crigler) Jones, Jacob McClinton, Linda (Banks) Rice, Aaron Sayles, and Yvonne (Bowdre) Woodard. 1980s: Jack Evans Jr., Jeannette (Hughes) Glass, Carlotta Mixon, Lawrence Murray, Benny Walls, and Herman Wesley. 1990s: Vernon Cathey, Brian Davis, Robert Guy, Carlton Holt Jr., Sara (O’Neal) Johnson, and Jaye P. Watkins. 2000s: Samuel Bailey, Shannon Bailey, Amanda Glass, Shandra Gibbs-Clay, Audria Woodard, and Tracey Woodard. In addition to those selected by your votes, the Hall of Fame committee unanimously agreed to induct the following alumni in the Hall of Fame posthumously: Patricia Hannah Martin, Tina Jackson Richardson, Kenneth “Pops” Terry, Damien Reed and Joanna Mayberry. We salute our classmates and friends who have passed on. We remember their work and sacrifice for our college. We are still looking for alumni to join the “10 x 10” campaign at $10 a month for ten months this year. You can send your payments monthly or in one lump sum donation. It’s not too late to join the campaign. All proceeds from this campaign will be used to help furnish the new Foundational Arts Building scheduled to open on the campus this year. You can give your donation here.
We will be publishing a
second edition of My Southwestern Story. Please send your favorite
memories for inclusion in this book to
swcc60@yahoo.com or to the PO Box. The first edition was a huge
success and those stories provided hours of laughter at the reunion. A few
sample stories are
here.
Stay tune for updates
